This is a work in progress attempting to map the worldwide DJ community. Although the history of this culture is relatively young, there are very rich data sets that are both intriguing and useful. To start the prototyping of this project 25 DJs from the Philadelphia area took a brief survey. The end result will be a live website where DJs can take polls and compare different data sets and even variations within those sets. Some of the information will inform us how much money, time and energy is used per gig or even per year by just a single DJ or a group of DJs or compare differences based on location and experience. For artists, they could use this info to know who is most likely to play their music and what formats they should sell it in. The aesthetics of the visualizations reference objects that DJs are familiar with.
For this site to happen, the coding needs to be in place first. I'm looking for 1 or 2 people to collaborate with that know Processing very well and are into music. If this sounds like you or you know somebody, please contact me!
